Rotation Hours are 1-10 PM Monday through Thursday. Friday shifts are from 1 PM until 8 AM on Saturday. Check with teaching attending at the beginning of each shift to coordinate best time for lecture.
Second Year Residents will rotate through the ICU/IMCU. They will have full responsibility for all ICU/IMCU patients and admits after 5 PM. See below for more information about the 1-5 PM portion of the shift.
After 5 PM, they will have primary triage responsibility for all admissions and all ICU/IMCU patients whether or not they do the admitting H&P. All IMCU patients will be assessed by the ICU/IMCU resident.
All ICU/IMCU admissions require attending notification.
Mon AM – the ICU/IMCU resident will have an outpatient clinic 1x/week.
1-5 PM – The ICU resident will meet with rotation attendings on average 4 days/week for a 1 hour teaching session. Teaching topics will include discussions on management and initial work up of the patients you have cared for; focused didactics on Critical Care issues; ECG reading; and patient presentations. If there are procedures to be performed in the ICU then you may ask your attending to assist with them and reschedule the didactics.
1-5 PM – Receive sign-out from residents who are in PM clinics and cover for those ICU/IMCU patients, be available for lectures and available procedures. Do walk-rounds with ICU Charge Nurse, ICU Attending, and Internal Medicine Attending between 1 & 5 PM to assess state of the units.
5-10 PM – Act as after-hours team leader, receive sign-out on remaining ICU/IMCU patients, coordinate all admissions among admitting residents, manage ICU/IMCU patients, admit new ICU/IMCU patients (IMCU admissions may be delegated at your discretion), supervise/teach the intern on call, and give signout to ICU Night Float
